This year, only 1,100 applications will be accepted, with most spots reserved for healthcare professionals. The remaining places are designated for entrepreneurs and foreign nationals who offer what the province calls 鈥渉igh economic impact.鈥
To qualify, healthcare workers must hold a role listed by the provincial Health Authority. Eligible occupations include veterinary technicians, chiropractors, dentists, nutritionists and dietitians, licensed practical nurses, social workers, opticians, midwives, and physician assistants.
Foreign-trained professionals working independently 鈥 such as self-employed practitioners 鈥 may also apply. However, they must present a letter of recommendation from peers in their field. A relevant health authority, such as a group of midwives or nurses, must confirm that the applicant is currently practicing or will soon begin work in British Columbia and that they have the support of their professional community.
