You've finally made it to Mauritius after months of preparation. Once you have settled in, there are still some administrative tasks you'll have to take care of. If you're not sure where to start or feel a bit overwhelmed, here is a summary.
The first step to settling in Mauritius is to apply for the correct permit: residency, retirement, or work. To do this, you will need to contact the Economic Development Board (EDB). The application is done online and can be completed before your arrival, especially for work permits.
Once you receive the provisional approval, the EDB will schedule an appointment for you, and you will need to present yourself at their offices with the original required documents.
Thanks to the National Electronic Licensing System platform, an employer of a future foreign employee can start the work visa application process online, even before the employee arrives in Mauritius.
Unless you are working in a regulated sector (banking, engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine, paramedical, etc.), it is not necessary to register to apply for a license or authorization to work.
For the work permit, if your application is accepted, you will need to finalize everything using your original documents at the EDB offices. Once in Mauritius, you will receive an SMS invitation to complete your procedures for obtaining your permit.

Registering with your embassy in Mauritius
Most foreign nationals can register with the consulate or embassy of their country in Mauritius. This process helps their home country authorities to keep track of different nationalities, enabling them to provide additional assistance and protection if needed.
Enrolling children in school in Mauritius
For families relocating with school-aged children, school enrollment also takes place once settled in Mauritius, although you should certainly contact the schools you are interested in and even reserve spots well before your arrival.
Some institutions, such as Lyc茅e La Bourdonnais, require parents to present their Resident Permit or Occupation Permit to enroll their children.
Opening a bank account in Mauritius
Foreigners can open a resident or non-resident account, depending on their needs. To easily prove the source of your funds on a Mauritian account, choose a Mauritian bank that has financial relationships with your country of origin.
