When making your big聽move to Barcelona, one of the most important decisions is where you will call home. Finding a comfortable, high-quality property in a good neighborhood can sometimes be challenging as demand from residents, foreigners, professionals and students outstrips supply. Additionally, rental prices have increased over the last few years, driven by demand, inflation and a competitive housing market. In response to concerns over unaffordable rent, the Catalan government introduced a rent control cap in 2024. One of its aims is to limit annual rent increases.

The most common types of rental accommodation in Barcelona, especially in the city center, are apartments. These聽are often available for long-term lease. Houses for rent are more challenging to find, but not impossible, of course. If you are looking for more affordable accommodation, consider flat sharing, an option that many students and single people choose.

How to find an apartment in Barcelona

If you are relocating to Barcelona, it's a good idea to find somewhere temporary at first to give you a chance to look around and find the perfect neighborhood for you. Once you have found a suitable area, the search for a property in Barcelona can begin in earnest. There are a plethora of online listings and property portals. Local newspapers also carry classified ads.

You can also contact real estate and rental agencies and tell them what you're looking for. Note that you may have to pay them a finder's fee when they have found a property, which can be the equivalent of one month's rent.

Another way to find a place in Barcelona is through networking. Tell everyone you meet and know you want to rent in the city. Word of mouth is often a good way to secure a bargain.

Before you start looking for your聽rental home in Barcelona, make sure you have your NIE (foreigner聽identity number), passport, evidence of employment or ability to pay the rent, a Spanish bank account and an idea of your budget.

  • Eixample: 16.73 euros per square meter;
  • 骋谤脿肠颈补: 17.61 euros per square meter;
  • Horta Guinard贸: 14.58 euros per square meter;
  • Les Corts: 17.58 euros per square meter;
  • Nou Barris: 13.13 euros per square meter;
  • Sant Andreu: 13.71 euros per square meter;
  • Sant Mart铆: 16.37 euros per square meter;
  • Sarri脿-Sant Gervasi: 18.34 euros per square meter;
  • 厂补苍迟蝉-惭辞苍迟箩耻茂肠: 15.65 euros per square meter.

According to the online database Numbeo, you can expect to pay the following for a rental聽flat in Barcelona聽as of January 2025:

  • 1-bedroom apartment in the city center: Between 鈧1,000 and 鈧1,685 per month;
  • 1-bedroom apartment outside the city center: Between 鈧850 and 鈧1,300 per month;
  • 3-bedroom apartment in the city center: Between 鈧1,500 and 鈧3,300 per month;
  • 3-bedroom apartment outside the city center: Between 鈧1,150 and 鈧2,200 per month.
