Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.
I own a small School of English in Cuenca, and I have also started a Ballroom and C&W dance every Sunday evening from 7-10 PM. Check out the web page at http://www.CuencaBallroomDanceClub.com

I have a beautiful, modern 3BR, 1.5 Ba apartment, 3 blocks from my school, which I rent for $200 per month - Water and Electricity is another $15 or so, and a bottle of gas is $2-and-change. So far, I have been here for 4 months and used 2 bottles of gas.
Breakfast, also within easy walking distance from my school, of, for instance, a giant glass of freshly extracted fruit juice (a different one every day), 2 eggs-scrambled with cheese, coffee, and a toasted cheese sandwich...$2.00.
Lunch, within easy walking distance of my school, consisting of a pile of rice (always) and some kind of gravy or beans or both, a meat, including a large chunk of Broasted Chicken Breast, pork, or fish, and a beverage...$1.50
I don't own a car, because I used my 3rd grade arithmetic to figure out that, at $1.50 to $2 per taxi ride, I could take about 3,000 taxi rides, for the price of a decent used cars. No parking problems, no traffic accident problems, no insurance....
There are two seasons A DAY here, from dark to a little after sun-up, it's Early Spring, and for the rest of the day it's Late Spring. Highs average 73 degrees F and lows in the low 40's
It can be a little too cool, at times - but that is a small trade-off for "perpetual sping"

This was posted yesterday, but as I did not see it listed, please forgive a double-post. Basically, I am 62.5 and looking forward to retirement in 2.5 years. At this time, I wish to move to Mexico. I am looking for a year-'round temperate, rather dry ...
Except for a few isolated places, you would probably be hard-put to live comfortably on $1000 per month here, especially not in any of the Expat communities. You might want to look into Panama's retirement visa, they give automatic discounts for ... Read More
