About

Being of a mixed heritage, loving contrasts as well as the thousand and one night feeling and ambiance I totally fell in love with Tunisia when I first arrived in 1989 on my free yearly holiday working then for a major Scandinavian tour operator as a guide. I just could not stay away, now 25 years later I have lived and worked in this exciting exotic country as a head representative for a tour operator. Bought and built several homes in the medina (old town) of Sousse. And traveled to most parts off the beaten track of this colorful country. Because I always have had a genuine interest for cooking and different cuisine and cultures, Tunisia through its sun soaked veggies and fresh meat and fish dug its self even deeper into my heart. I truthfully believe that when you take part of a countries basic daily does, like buying food, learning how they cook and why they cook that way, where some of the most common dishes origin from, using your senses as well as heart in cooking, then you get even closer to the country your traveling in buy understanding it from a different way but yet in a way that we all have in common, because we all have too eat... right!? I also have experienced a down fall in the tourist restaurants in form of quality and taste so I came up with the idea of my cooking workshops with guided food market shopping tours with dinner at my place. I provide cooking classes in Tunisian cuisine in my home in the medina (old town) of Sousse. My Workshops include shopping the ingredients at the local markets such as spice market, fish and vegetable markets and butcher shops. After shopping you are welcome to my home in the medina for a cold drink on the terrace where we will talk about North African cuisine and you will learn about the traditions and customs that come with dining in this part of the world. We will then cook together our dinner for the evening. This to give the visitor an experience in traditional Tunisian home cooking, the ambiance of the food and spice markets/shops of the ancient Medina/old town with all its smells, sounds and sights. After all.... what could be more like home cooking when you participate in cooking the dinner yourself? Come experience the tastes and flavors of Tunisia in a small group (max 5 participants in every workshop and there are aprox. 8 workshops a month). Welcome to visit our website at www.tastesoftunisia.com Come cook with me! Alexander/Skander
