About
Having left alone with my backpack in 1985 for New Caledonia, I met there (at the youth hostel...) the woman who is my wife and mother of my 2 sons born in Noum茅a. We left the Caillou at the end of 1990, our best years...
A brief stay in mainland France (2 years) then departure for Reunion at the beginning of 1993 for... 20 years (no return, too expensive...), time passes so quickly! Return to mainland France in 2013 after our 2 sons left us to continue their studies; here we are, quite alone, thin as the years suddenly weigh on us! What to do, our parents are getting older (nearly 80 years old) so we decide to return to mainland France in order to "enjoy" them a little, life is like that, we get older... The plan to settle again in New Caledonia was planned with my wife within 2 or 3 years. Life decided otherwise, I decided to go back earlier than planned. Oh obviously 30 years have passed since then, I don't expect to find the Caillou as I knew it but I know perfectly well what to expect, high cost of living, difficulty finding work, a roof over your head etc etc, on this side Reunion is the same! But I deeply love Caledonia, its people, its life, its roots. I lived for almost a year in Noum茅a at the youth hostel (at that time it was possible) then in Dumb茅a, route du Barrage for the 4 years that followed, only very good memories... So there you have it, I'm considering starting again, no, continue the term is more appropriate I think, my little story about the Caillou. For your information, I was also in Australia, New Zealand, Madagascar, South Africa, Mauritius...
I also specify that I have always adapted to the life of the countries I have visited, I deeply respect the people considering me as "outsider" so it is up to me to adapt and not the opposite; so far it has worked well for me. While waiting for my departure, I'm reading your comments on the forum... see you soon!
