I am 62 and single, around 3 years to retirement. I intend to retire abroad, and have heard mostly good reports of Belize.I grew up and went to school here in Alberta, but brought up a family in Montreal for 20 years. I have travelled abroad considerably. There is a boom going on here in Edmonton, as it is the jumping-off point to the Fort McMurray Tar Sands. So the pace here, not to mention the rising cost of living, leads me to believe that I would have a better life abroad. At age 65, and retirement, I will collect approximately C$1500 per month, and have around C$10,000 in RSP's. I have about C$5,000 in cash right now. As I have been out of work, and on workmen's compensation for 3 months,I am thinking that it is the best time to get in touch with some ex-pats in Cuenca, with the idea of leaving here far sooner than 3 years from now. I have a University Degree in Transportation Management, and run Heavy Equipment; and I am not adverse to busying myself with interesting work, when I arrive there.
