About
My expat journey

Kerala, India
Experienced love and heartbreak, finding out what it is I really want to do, and learned more about being real. I think we never stop learning, and this is even more true of India, a country which brings constant challenges.
Outsourcing, proofreading in medical transcription. Trying to get a leg-up in the online writing world at the same time.
People who are eager to get to know you. So many stories to listen to. A deep, rich and all-encompassing history. Buying perfect mangoes for less than a dollar.
People who are TOO eager to get to know you! And the hypocrisy in virtually all levels of officialdom, from the Lok Sabha down to your local police station.

Kanagawa, Japan
First time living abroad, learned Japanese, spent too much money, learned a lot about myself - and that my future was not in Japan.
English teacher (of course)
Everything in Japan runs smoothly, and once you get to know people, they really open up and treat you like a member of their family. The food is incredible, and there are so many incredible places to see and experience.
It is very hard to get to know people other than fellow ex-pats (at least, in and around Tokyo). Life is very machine-like, lacking in the sort of human interaction I think I require in order to stay sane...

Waikato/Auckland/Christchurch, New Zealand
Grew up there after spending the first year of my life in England. Became a Kiwi, something I will never forget about myself.
Various, from serving petrol to selling souvenirs in a Japan-focused shop.
Beautiful land, welcoming people, very safe. Worth at least a visit for absolutely anyone.
Too much of an inferiority complex! Or is that just me?

I haven't spent much time in Bangalore but on one weekend I was there, I went to a club with a few friends. Interesting, and very different, experience. I only went to one club, so I can't speak for the whole of Bangalore, but it was both ... Read More
