Hanoi is a great, busy city with lots to do. It is also good base location to reach sites in Northern Vietnam. The weather is pretty decent too. Getting around with Uber is a snap if you don't mind the extra wait. Otherwise, taxis are everywhere for a higher price. Just be careful of the taxi scams in Vietnam.
Bargains can be found but bilking the tourist is also on the agenda. The smog is pretty bad and traffic is nuts. I couldn't seem to get a decent internet connection anywhere. If your internet is mandatory for your job get a SIM.

The water was the perfect temperature. I don't care for how touristy (translate expensive) this area is. Also did not like shopping in Cancun because I couldn't find anything but mass produced, overpriced crap. Found a couple nice things in Tulum.

Great Culture and they are working really hard to make this a top tourist destination. There is a lot to do and see here. I really liked the market area. The people are very kind.
They are overcharging for food, taxi, other goods and they haven't quite met a standard that makes that acceptable. I don't like paying US prices for my lunch at a Cambodian guest house.

Great transportation system. Prices are good for everything except accommodation. Standards for accommodation vary. There is much more to see in Taiwan that I imagined. I'd like to go back.Loved all the kinds of beverages they make.
Your baggage doesn't go with you on the train and usually arrives much later. This country is developed enough that it seems like they would have implemented better, safer traffic laws. Hotels are overpriced and there are few good budget options.
