About
Hello, for 17 years I lived in Tenerife. The death of my father and the crisis made me return to Belgium but I plan to return there within a year or two, to spend the winter and summer in Belgium or to travel.
Life there was great, I worked and enjoyed the beauty of the island. I also bought an apartment (atico) at the top of Adeje, far from tourism, in a charming village, today I have rented it out, a trusted friend lives there, paying a moderate rent but looking after him. Of course the rental is declared and a gestor takes care of the financial side for a price of more or less 30 per quarter.
I was 45 years old when I arrived on this island and I loved it immediately for its diversity, for the kindness of the natives, the extraordinary climate......and of course everything changes, more hotels, more buildings, less culture, less work.
The place is accessible to everyone, as long as you do something different and interesting. You must of course declare yourself and appoint a manager for all administrative procedures because they are quicker and depending on the activity you can declare yourself as autonomous (note that social security is more or less equal to that of Belgium) and VAT must be paid every month.
It is important to have, in addition to the care distributed by the social security system, a private card (eg Mapfre or DKV) because conventional medicine is difficult to access and you have to wait a long time, whereas by going through the doctor of your choice paid by private insurance, you are better and more quickly taken care of.
Do not listen to everyone, for each service it is worth contacting the appropriate ministry directly and of course, upon arrival, register at the consulate.
