My expat journey

Yucatan, Mexico
This is a time to really focus on our web-based business, live more within our means. Watching my pre-teens grow and being activly involved in their lives. I

It is so much cheaper in this part of the County. Merida is hardly a tourist city when compared to Puerto Vallarta and for a 4 unit family we really like that! The Mexican culture is stronger here then I could have hoped for. I love all of the history, museums ruins and that the beach is only a 30 minute bus ride away!
Everything closes up shop soooo dang early! Im accustomed to going down to the street taco stand. Everyone is bound for "somewhere" Its very urban and a "working" city. I've realized how much I like a more laid back beach atmosphere!

Jalisco, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta was our first destination abroad and we hold many great memories of that cozy little beach town. Getting our feet wet in a new country seems like a project all its own. This time spent in Puerto Vallarta was about learning the ropes in a new country, from FM3 visas to what was the best school for my kidos.

Puerto Vallarta has an enormous expat community, for me this was a plus. Beautiful beaches just outside my door, great dining whenever you wanted even at 2am. For a young family making a big move there where allot of "familiar" aspects that made our transition easier.
The tourism is very strong in Puerto Vallarta and that sometimes took the adventure of being in another country away. Needless to say my Spanish skills suffered, everyone and mean everyone speaks English. Prices are outrageous, from housing to tacos.

Portland, Oregon, USA
Owned and operated a high end furniture store. All of my family and close friends were left behind in Oregon. I was busy every second of everyday, and was actively part of the whole "rat race".

Portland offers mountains, desert, coast and all within 1-2 hours of home. Outdoor adventures are everywhere and I loved that. Hiking was a big part of life for us there and I doubt we even tackled a fraction of the amazing trails the Northwest has to offer.
It rains allot in the Pacific Northwest...360 days a year or something close to that Im sure!
