American looking for information about Portugal

My husband and I are wanting to experience a few years outside of the US. We are now retired and would like to explore the world for maybe three years seeing different places but staying on a budget as well. My son is in a band and he loved Portugal. We are thinking about spending some time there and other places. Sadly we know we cannot stay more than 90 days a time but we are open to seeing different places so that is ok. We would love to meet locals and expats. We would like to make some connections before taking off here soon. The biggest question is how to find a room that we can rent in a safe affordable town where we could get by on public transportation. I am originally from Texas and my husband is originally from Seattle which is very close to where we are living. We are excited about taking the next step and would like to start the adventure in a few months down the road. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hmm any specifics on Oporto? Besides weather? I can google that I am sure. I think Lisbon would be expensive even for the max 90 day stay. Any idea on how I can find out more about it? I have been to parts of Europe but can't relate as how it is ... Read More
