My expat journey

Milan, Italy
I work for a tlc company, I got a long term project so I plan to be here for a while. My tasks are a bit demanding but I still like to hang out and enjoy life :)
financial stuff.
Milan has everything you need. Good jobs if you want to work, good universities if you want to study. For shopping lovers is a must, but also the variety of clubs is interesting. Surroundings are very nice!
Like Madrid, it is too far from the sea, but this is really personal. Weather is not so special and Milan is expansive!
Parts of the city are not so nice, cause it is really a business city.

Rome, Italy
this is where I grow up! I love Rome, nevertheless I acknowledge its problems, but I can ensure that if you sacrifice a bit your standers, specially when moving, it is unique!
I was a student, from elementary school to bachelor.
my home town, I am biased...
too big, too chaotic, no public transport. It is hard too move and to discover in its real aspects.

Madrid, Spain
I was working for a TLC company!
Financial analyst
Madrid is a fantastic place to live, the concentration of bars is amazing, the little streets around the centre are always alive. The parties never stop and the variety is impressing.
Food is good and weather is decent!
It is very hard to get a good job, the public administration is slow (once you have a job you have to face it!).
Sometimes I had the feeling that beyond the crazy parties was hard to really know people.
You need to know Spanish!

Rotterdam, Netherlands
I was still a student, taking a master in Erasmus University. It was again fantastic, student life was just perfect, a lot of partying and the "right" amount of studying :)
Taking my Msc.
International atmosphere, Holland is the perfect country for expats, many foreigners live there and every dutch can speak english fluently. The parties are good, the beer is cheap, Rotterdam is very multicultural and if you want to change only 1 hour away from Amsterdam!
Even if Dutch society is the most tolerant in the world sometimes is too precise for me, seems a bit cold in few aspects of life, for instance, even fun appears to be "organized".
The weather!

Tralee, Ireland
I spent 6 fantastic months there, my first experience living abroad, sharing an apartment with a foreigner and joining international parties!
I was an exchange student, writing my BA thesis was my only concern :)
Fantastic atmosphere in many pubs, funny and nicely simple people (I mean, not with the attitude that those from big cities have).
Great nature and outstanding landscapes!
Very small town, not really good forever, not so many places to see without car.

Hello Ileana, I think that in the worst case an English mother tongue can always give private lessons, many Italians are willing to learn English. Anyway, I don't want to break the rules of this forum! So, good luck!!! See you in July. Read More
