My expat journey

Hull, England, England
came in with my job
shipping coordinator
lot's of green spaces everywhere, cheap if you like going out to party, pubs are great, cheap overall cost of living, large East European community
limited job opportunities, city is quite poor with lot's of people struggling to make ends meet, some of the locals blame the immigrants and the EU for all their unrelated troubles.

Marseille, Provence-Alpes-C么te d'Azur, France
Ship management
The city is beautiful , great transport , lot's of nice places to visit both in the city and around the area.
Nobody speaks English! , some places are not so safe at night , but they are not near any of the tourists spots so it is ok.

Valletta, Il-Belt Valletta, Malta
Shipyard Project
Ship Engineer
Valletta is like a fairy tale dream city , very beautiful old city and very organized.
Bonus I can see my workplace :the shipyard from the city , just a short ferry ride away.
It's all tourists in the capital , feels like nobody actually lives there any more.

Istanbul , T眉rkiye
Shipyard Project
Ship Engineer
Nice mix of East and West , great geography of city and mix of old and new.
Very crowded , Turkish is hard to understand , very limited alcohol in bars.

Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Shipyard project
Ship Engineer
Hong Kong is crazy city , love the organised chaos and density and especially the skyline.
expensive place , but it is worth it

Bremerhaven, Bremen, Germany
Shipyard Project
Ship Engineer
not much , it's close to Bremen I guess
Expensive transport , expensive taxi especially , no night life , not much to do

Constanta, Romania
My home country
child , student
Nice landscapes , plenty nice things to see , some very unique attractions in all Europe , cheap beer and cheap accommodation :D
lack of Infrastructure , government, poor tourism experience , to much to explain here :)

The real estate agents are also the worse scums here (Marseille) , I have never seen such lazy arrogant bastards in other countries. They don't do nothing , and expect to get payed huge commissions. The agent that got me the flat just sent me ... Read More

Hello , Honestly France is one of the most difficult countries to adapt and be an expat. All the integration procedures are complicated and involve a lot of useless bureaucracy and running around from one institution to another (e.g. to get the ... Read More

all the landlords we saw and refused us were from leboncoin. We avoid real estate agencies because they ask for ridiculous commissions like 500-700 EUR + inventory charge. Read More

Honestly I don't understand this legislation , in my country landlords fight to get a tenant quickly in their flat, don't even care where you work as long as you pay the rent. If you don't pay one or two months they kick out , simple as ... Read More

Thanks for all replies , we have given up on trying to find French classes after we knocked at every door at the Mairie and at different NGO organisations , all refusing us. France is definitely not a friendly place towards new people. We will ... Read More
