Hello, since 2013 and my retirement I have been traveling to Asia during the winter season. I often go to Cambodia, a country for which I have a lot of affection. Two years ago, I met Vireak Kong, a Battambang tuk tuk driver. To meet his desire to learn, I spent two weeks with him to improve his French. It's not much, but everything needs a start. During this period he told me about his project: opening his free language school for children from poor families. He is a simple man, he and his family live on little, he speaks basic English, similar to mine, with some basic French and German. When I visited last year, I had the pleasure of seeing that he had moved from words to action. I discovered a "classroom" under the lean-to, in the courtyard of the house, to see it, go to its Facebook. During the only three days, visa required, that I was able to devote to them I found such a desire in these children that I promised myself to come back for a longer period. And there you have it, I'm back in Battambang, I found Vireak and we have morning coffee together again, time always used to perfect his French. At 5 p.m. I meet the same children as last year after leaving public school to teach them some additional notions of our language. I'm talking about myself, but there are a good number of tourists that Vireak meets who take some of their time for the children. I can tell you that we do not remain indifferent to their enthusiasm. The more I advance in this project, the more I realize that we have to focus on the long term. With Vireak we are looking at how to give an entity to its school something necessary to give it banking accessibility and be able to receive donations.
