Since my arrival on the island, I have become more and more involved in the life of our very small community of 18 people facing a "mother" commune of 3,871 inhabitants and faced with the difficult reconversion of an activity essentially focused on fishing to a tourist activity (117,000 one-day visitors in 2010).
In addition, the economic crisis was clearly felt with a drop of more than 25% in visitors in 4 years. This currently involves a revival of our community, the construction of closer cohesion of the group and active participation in the policy of renewal of the offer set up by the municipality of Tuoro-sul-Trasimeno. This is what partly motivated the creation of our blog.
鈥淟ocked鈥� for decades in the intellectual sphere, I reconverted - with astonished pleasure - to more manual activities: daily collection of rubbish on the paths taken by visitors, sanding and refreshing the paintings of the benches on via Guglielmi, and, very probably, work of... operative masonry!
Living on Isola Maggiore means living "out of time" thanks to the unreal atmosphere of its unique street with a semi-medieval character. And what can we say about its charm for those who have the privilege of walking there at night! It's living in peace and serenity, all winter, and in season, at dawn, dusk and all night. This is the beauty of unpolluted nature. These are the walks in the contrasting paths, always surrounded by pheasants and pine trees. It is to taste the countless metamorphoses of Lake Trasimeno and the fabulous sunsets on the hills so close to Tuscany. It's tasting fish dishes from the lake, often caught by one of the island's two still active fishermen.
