Managing a small school
It's right on the Thai border so I have many Thai friends working here. As I speak fairly good Thai and it's the 2nd language here, I'm easily able to communicate with most people in one of three languages, sometimes a mix of all. But there are almost no other westerners here so there is no competition for the jobs teaching. A big fish in a small pool.
It's dirty, dusty, the food's not up to much, which surprises me as 'food heaven' Thailand is only 150 metres from my home. Friendly locals are matched, if not outnumbered by surly ones. There are almost no bars or nightlife, as such. When you do find good eateries or nightlife, it's a rip-off as there are thousands of wealthy young Chinese here to use the casinos and the whole local economy is linked to that.

I worked in several towns & cities on and off for 3 years. I had a Thai wife in England who was an illegal immigrant and hiding form the Home Office deportation teams. My goal in Holland was to get residency, then see if we could live there should I manage to sneak her in, or better still get permission for her to travel there. After much trying, they said 'no'.

Good, honest, tolerant, fun people. Holland's very clean and organised. Working conditions were excellent compared to 'Alcatraz' (the UK) and life more affordable.
Nothing other than being apart from my wife for 2-3 weeks at a time
