About

My husband and I have lived on our sailboat in the Caribbean from 2013 to early 2019. We decided to settle down in Puerto Rico when his age caught up with us. We still want to travel by air, but we like the idea of having an island home. Puerto seems to be the best of all worlds
Interests: sailing, cooking., hiking, reading, snorkelling, travelling

Occupation

I am Retired.

My expat journey

Arroyo, Puerto Rico

Since Jan 2019

Arroyo, Puerto Rico

We are retired and can't imagine living back in the US mainland. We need the Caribbean Sea! We are so fortunate to have found a place where we can live on the water, out of the rat race and experience a culture as welcoming and laid back as that here in beautiful Puerto Rico!
The most remarkable thing about this place is the stunning beauty of it all. From the comforting presence of the mountains, to the sparkling and ever changing Caribbean Sea, it is a never ending visual delight.

Saint George's, Saint George, Grenada

Nov 2017 - Jan 2019

Saint George's, Saint George, Grenada

We lived on our sailboat, mostly in the south coast anchorages.
Retired
It was a place where Crusiers congregated and so we found camaraderie with like-minded people. There was always someone around who could relate to the life we lead. The Grenadians make it easy for boaters to stay long-term to get away from hurricane prone areas. Prices aren't too bad for most things, they speak English, which makes it easier on us. The island is beautiful and while still small, it is large enough to keep us entertained for long periods. Public transportation is relatively easy and very inexpensive so it was easy to do without a car.
The duties for importing goods we couldn't find on the island were off-putting. The process was not difficult, but required the help of an agent. It added a significant cost to everything we had to ship in. As with most islands, there were sometimes shortages of basic groceries.

Landfill near Rio Grande de Patillas by DosLibras

We are looking at the condo properties for sale in the area near the defunct landing strip close to the mouth of the Rio Grande de Patillas, southeast coast near Puerto Patillas. Namely Villa Phi Delta. A friend who lives in Patillas told me that ...

Thank you. It seems that maybe there was some flurry of information and it just went quiet? I guess that's something we'll live with on the island. Not much different from my home town in Texas actually! Read More
