My expat journey

Woking, England, England
Worked in Leatherhead, London and Farnborough and lived in Leatherhead, Ashtead, and Woking, where I live now. We absolutely love England, and have visited many, many parts of it. I love the history, the weather, the pleasant walks.
I am a cost engineer for an oil company.
Pleasant weather, rich history and beautiful countryside. So much to see and do here.
The bureaucracy here is amazing. It is also a pretty expensive place to live.

Escravos Delta State, Nigeria
i worked here at a company compound on the Escravos river on. Rotation basis every other month for two years
Cost engineer
what made this good was the extensive time off in the US. During that time I was able to travel a lot and learn to fly small airplanes.
The weather is terrible...rains a lot, when not raining it is very humid. It is a very dangerous place, and mosquitoes carry malaria.

Houston, Texas, USA
Raised my family there. Katy, the suburb I lived in, was very good for that.
I worked as a marketing manager at one company then transitioned to Cost Engineering. Changed companies twice, and am still at Chevron.
Lots of family friendly resources, a great Japanese Supplemental school where all my children learned Japanese curriculum in addition to some great public schools.
I don?t like hot, humid weather at all. It is difficult to get exercise outside.

Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan
Worked at JGC, had three kids, during this time I had assignments in Northern Virginia and in central Washington state. I also travelled to Jakarta and to Prague extensively.
Project engineer for JGC on nuclear waste and on flue gas desulfurization projects.
Fascinating area and culture, good friends
Hot, humid, poorly insulated homes, oppressively overcrowded.

Tacoma, Washington, USA
Worked at a small company engineering solutions for nuclear waste and materials handling.
Project engineer
wonderful friends, great weather lots to do outdoors
Tacoma is fairly poor, sometimes not very safe.

Best city to live in the Uk? by _marty_
Hi, I've been living in London in the past 5 years and initially loved it, so multi-cultural and there's always something cool to visit and do. On the other hand the cost of life here is outrageous and saving is almost impossible. ...
I live in Woking, on the main line between Southampton and London, making it a great place for a wide variety of activities. One can be at Waterloo in less than 30 minutes, but there are plenty of places to go and see on foot or train in the area. ... Read More
