My husband and I are considering early retirement to either Ecuador or possibly Nicaragua in the next 3-5 years. We currently do not speak Spanish, but plan to take lessons soon. We would like to visit Cuenca (and other areas) in the next year to see if it is someplace we would be interested in. There are many questions yet to be asked and much research that needs to be done. I am hoping to get many answers from expats that know first hand the "good, the bad and the ugly" about moving to Ecuador. From what I've heard so far, like most places, it's what you make of it and the attitude you have while in the process.
