My expat journey

new-zealandnetherlandsdenmarknew-zealand
Auckland, New Zealand

Since Jan 2010

Auckland, New Zealand

Remembering what it is like to be a New Zealander. Still the same but changed. Renovating our house in rural Auckland and finding my feet - still!
Stay at home mum keeping the family on track.
Spread out city with no plan, very polarised culturally. I live in the countryside, so am not surrounded by people, however, the suburb in which we live does not have a local village. It is quite strange.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Jul 2008 - Dec 2009

Copenhagen, Denmark

Much the same as previous location, more freedom to get on with my own creative projects now the children were older.
Stay at home mum.
Danish people, beautiful countryside, architecture, museums, parks, beaches, lifestyle
Insane taxation and cost of living.

Rotterdam, Netherlands

Jul 2004 - Jun 2008

Rotterdam, Netherlands

Looking after our young twins and keeping on top of husband's travel commitments, whilst trying to stay sane
Expatriate stay at home mum.
Wonderful expat friends we made, ease of travel to the rest of Europe.
Dutch attitude to many things, congestion, xenophobia, so many people in a small space

Wellington, New Zealand

Jun 1968 - Jun 2004

Wellington, New Zealand

Born and educated in Wellington, so a true Wellingtonian. Left to pursue an expatriate contract in Europe with my husband.
Interior designer followed by stay at home mum.
Great vibe to the city, creative, cultural, ease of living, ease of getting around the city. Can't beat Wellington on a good day.
Not sure

We relocated to Auckland in January this year and faced your dilema. We chose south Auckland in Alfriston, and are within 1.5 kms, in each direction, of our house to the local primary/intermediate and secondary school (high school). Both decile ... Read More
