About

I'm an American woman who moved to my husband's native Saudi Arabia in Oct. 2007. The move has been both interesting and challenging. Adapting to the new culture and way of life here has been difficult because although parts of this country are very modern, many things about it seem ancient. It's hard to understand the reasons for a lot of things here and I don't know that I ever will.
Interests: photography, Writing, movies, graphic art, painting

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

My Saudi husband and I actually retired to KSA. Most people move here to work and then go back to their homelands.
Journalism
There is plenty to do all the time. The Red Sea offers lots of activities. The people of Saudi Arabia are among the friendliest, kindest and most generous I have ever met anywhere. The photography opportunities are endless. Food - great restaurants, fresh seafood - Jeddah is a Foodie's paradise.
* It's very hot. Having to wear the abaya makes it even hotter. * It's very dusty. There is construction going on all over the city and it makes a mess. * Traffic is a nightmare. Many roads are blocked for no apparent reason which makes getting places take twice as long as it needs to.

Dear Priscilla - This whole topic is just plain stupid. Only Saudi citizens can retire in Saudi Arabia. Once foreign workers retire, they are forced to leave Saudi Arabia for good. I would suggest deleting this whole thread because it makes you ... Read More

Following fashion in Saudi Arabia by Priscilla

I've seen women's fashion change in the nine years that I have been living in Saudi Arabia. Abayas in Jeddah have really changed. The first few years only black abayas with maybe a little colored trim or embellishments could be found. And ... Read More

Knowing other ladies in jeddah by Catalina0710

Hello , Are there any moms , or ladies in general, interested in knowing other expats? Would really like to make some friends. I'm in jeddah since a while and it's getting very annoying not knowing anyone. Thanks.
