My expat journey

englandenglandenglandenglandnorway
Stavanger, Norway

Since Feb 2007

Stavanger, Norway

The beauty, the people, the way of life, nature on your doorstep
The lack of decent nightlife, live bands etc, the hassle of getting back to the UK (I don't visit London or Aberdeen often enough to count those)

Manchester, England

Sept 2003 - Jan 2007

Manchester, England

The shops, the nightlife, the people, the proximity to the Peaks, Snowdonia and the Lakes
Just the negatives associated with living in a big city - crime, too many people

Middlesbrough, England

Aug 2000 - Sept 2003

Middlesbrough, England

The people, the shops
You need to go to Newcastle for decent nightlife, bands etc.

Norwich, England

Aug 1998 - Jul 2000

Norwich, England

Lovely small city, right balance of decent shops and nightlife whilst still a personable city
Hassle of getting anywhere (but probably the reason it stays small, which is a positive....)

Nottingham, England

Sept 1995 - Jul 1998

Nottingham, England

Big city life, great atmosphere, shopping, nightlife, good central location for visiting the rest of England
crime, too many people etc.

Restaurants I like are Dehli, an indian down the side of the cinema, and Vinhuset (on Skagen with a red carpet in the street) - I also want to try Bevaremegvel next door. The restaurant in the Harbour Bowl is also really good. The cafe Bacchus is ... Read More
