My time in Pemba was an investigative project to see what potential it had for a combination of environmental resort, estate, and community NGO.

Kalangala, Uganda

Running an environmental NGO, on the very remote island of Bugaba, in the Ssese islands. Creating an extremely livable volunteer camp with innovative environmental concepts, in the middle of a rain forest. Perfect purification systems, no smell, no touch toilet composting systems that provide toxin free, natural fertilizer for the Permaculture farm, and methane gas for heating and cooking. Extremely reliable lternative energy systems, and designs for exciting new ways of collecting energy and storing it. Designing and building excellent accommodations for the camp, and schools, and WASH systems for the communities. Taking on full responsibility for over a dozen children and a plethora of abused or needy animals.
I have many occupations and skills. I have studied resort management, social work, design and construction, and boatbuilding, English literature and psychology, and scuba diving. I have diplomas, licences or certificates in social work, resort management, padi instructor, radio license, car licence, boat licence, racing licence, design and construction, and boatbuilding. I have run resorts, dive bases, restaurants, bars, and watersports facilities, on 5 star facilities through to backpacker establishments. I have designed, built, and maintained all these types of facilities as well. Run my own construction company in South Africa, and have worked on some of the most expensive yachts in the world. I have managed sporting events, started sports leagues, and run catering departments at big sporting grounds. The reason I'm so diverse in my knowledge, skills, and experience, is because I learned how to apply excellence do everything I try.
The beauty, potential, and the children, animals and nature. And the challenge of creating something from nothing, without any carbon footprint, or harming the environment in any way.
The only thing that ever made me wish I wasn't here, was the very few evil people you would meet. But in saying that, Uganda probably has the most naturally friendly people I've ever met, and the fewest percentage of bad people. But like everywhere else, bad people exist, and they must be dealt with, as honorably as possible.

I was running an exclusive, glamping, eco-dive-resort. Planning, designing, and building the unfinished facilities of the resort. Managing the finances and budgets. Researching and developing all the dive and game fishing sites in these uncharted waters around the top of Mafia Island. Overseeing all the departments, kitchen, front of house, etc. And taking guests on dives, and game fishing tours.
Resort management. Dive guide. Game fishing guide. Design and construction. Environmental system maintenance and installer.
Beautiful, untouched area of the world.

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Married at the time. Owned and ran my own construction company. Designing and building exclusive furniture, high quality kitchens, house renovations, and residential construction. Team leader on one of the biggest sports conferences in the world. The 2000 International Rugby Summit. Fitting out 100 million plus dollar yachts.
Designer and builder. Sports administration. Boat builder.
Great mountain biking. Met some great people.
Too much crime. Too much hate. Racism.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Born in Victoria, Australia. Parents moved around. Grew up on one of the first resorts in Queensland. Finished school in Victoria. Studied boatbuilding, then design and construction, English literature, and psychology, social work, and resort management. Worked in boat building, construction, landscaping, and hospitality industries. Traveled to the Maldives and Europe, through Asia. Then traveled to Africa, with some quick returns to Australia.
