My expat journey

Matagalpa, Nicaragua
Studying the chances to move there in a few years, probably by my 70th birthday.
I'm planning a visit in 2025-26
Not visited yet, but I suppose that nature, low cost of life and good local food (produce) are good.
Can't say.

Putre, Arica y Parinacota, Chile
Life and family business (with my wife).
B&B owner and manager; tour guide and 4x4 vehicle excursions.
Map editor (for that area).
Nature and weather.
Chile can be quite expensive for many items, food included. The food is not so great and variegated. The people were not reliable at all (with very few exceptions).

Palanga, Klaip臈dos apskritis, Lithuania
Living together my wife.
Part time teacher of the Italian language at a private school.
People mind their own business and are quite, perhaps too quite sometimes. The area was beautiful and relaxed (for my taste).
The weather was (for me) terrible: very short summer and lack of sunlight. Plenty of rain, of course: the name itself, "Lietuva", means "land of rain".
Lithuanian laws where sometimes ridiculous. A mix of European (they were part of) and Soviet laws was an obstacle to open a certain business in a certain location.

Arx, Aquitaine, France
Life in couple in the middle of a forest.
Photographer, until lasted...
Nice landscape of the Region. Not so expensive cost of living, especially if compared to Italy (in those years). Good food.
Narrow minded people, at least in that Region, and "nose in the air" people all over the country. Id i did not have a need to work I would have staid longer.

Faro, Portugal
Life as a couple together my wife; location Funchais, Loule', Faro district.
Photographer for a 5* golf resort in the Algarve and than as free-lance.
Good relation between local services and cost of living. No problems with road traffic.
Local immigration authorities; but that treatment often depends by the people working at a certain time and place.

Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia
Small business owner together my wife.
Owner of a B&B and small restaurant. Tour guide. Photographer.
Nature, weather, food, easy going life.
Some limitation to foreigners in the purchase of land.

Milano, Lombardy, Italy
Local citizen.
Salesman and photographer
Food in general
Italian bureaucracy; italian way of complicating what is simple; bad air quality of the region (Lombardia)
