I am Christine, I am a retired psychiatric nurse, I am a mum, grandmother and great grandmother. I came to Marrakech on holiday with a friend, came back with another friend and felt drawn to come and live here, at least for a while. I have felt the need to simplify my life, to shed some of the excesses of european life and to live life according to what I need rather than what I want. I have thought for a long time that civilian culture is self indulgent and to a large extent, superficial. I travelled through Morocco on my own and with a Moroccan friend as well as with the friends I came on holiday with. I was very moved by the simple and very hard life that the majority of Moroccans live and became more and more disenchanted with my own greedy life. I want to learn more French, and try to get to grips with Moroccan Arabic, which will be tricky as I can't even roll my Rs let alone achieve some of the unfamiliar sounds of the Arabic languages. I wold like to meet some English speaking people and make friends in Marrakech.
