My expat journey

francenetherlandspolandromaniahungaryfrance
Toulouse, France

Since Nov 2011

Toulouse, France

I am back in Toulouse after some years abroad. I lived here when I was a student and started to work.
I work for a start-up in LED lightning field.
Friendly city in general. Not aggressive with very nice climate. The public transportation developed a lot and still need to improve. Many things to do here if you're curious.
The rents increased a lot with years and living in or close to the city center gets difficult, if you look for a decent flat. Traffic jams are terrible.

Budapest, Hungary

Nov 2009 - Nov 2011

Budapest, Hungary

I was area manager for a company producing pet food. I took care of Central and Eastern Europe countries. I also work few months in IBM Budapest.
Well, sales manager for professional background. I was playing some music as a DJ on a local (independent) radio and during some events sometimes.
Friendly people, beautiful city, great spa, great pubs, great barbecues on Margit Sziget. I also liked moving across the city with public transportation (even night buses). Great wines and good Palinka.
Police controlling you at night while going by bike :( The gas and electricity was expensive comparing with rents. The food in supermarkets was not of a good quality and quite expensive. Maybe too many French people ;)

Cluj Napoca, Romania

Jan 2008 - Oct 2009

Cluj Napoca, Romania

I was sales and Project manager for greenhouses, in the whole country and others (Republic of Moldova, Poland, and Baltic states)
Mountains, driving, driving, driving, avoiding accidents with trucks... And visiting the whole area
Cluj is a nice medium size city. Dual culture with Hungarian and Romanian peaking inhabitants. Some nice pubs and restaurants. Good university of Babes Bolay giving the city good cultural resources.
Traffic jams, agressive drivers, very bad public transportation and the city was a mess because of work in progress. The music scene was not very eclectic.

Warsaw, Poland

Jan 2007 - Dec 2007

Warsaw, Poland

Realizing my end of studies mission.
I worked in a press agency as business developer. I also was DJ and enjoyed the city a lot.
Great lively city. Very friendly people when you get to know them. The city never sleeps if you know how to be in the right district t the right time. The vodka is the best in the world and the food is great in Poland :)
I miss that city a lot. I couldn't find a job there because I couldn't speak a good Polish enough.

Eindhoven, Netherlands

Aug 2003 - Dec 2006

Eindhoven, Netherlands

Doing my studies in International Business and Management.
I was student. DJ, studying and partying, of course. Biking a lot.
Small city, everything close to the center. Great saturday open market (living 200 meters from there) and lots of foreigners. Very safe city.
The food (sorry, but I don't like croquette and frikadel). At the end, I found Eindhoven somewhat boring and quite difficult to integrate into.
