I'm a self-employed multimedia communicator (i.e. writing, radio, photography, digital media) who is currently living in Johannesburg, South Africa. My leisure time is interwoven - and often interchangeable -with my work. In the evenings, I enjoy watching movies or going to the theatre. Sadly, there isn't very much worthwhile theatre left in South Africa, and many of the large theatres spend a lot of time hosting 'tribute shows' (i.e. copycat bands which emulate popular groups such as the Bee Gees, ABBA and Queen). Not my idea of fun... The open and non-racist, democratic society that I had longed for during the Apartheid years, just isn't panning out. Instead, South Africa is being "led" by a despotic and instrinsically corrupt regime, which is dragging the country down toward another Zimbabwe-style dictatorship. I am planning on emigrating to the Netherlands, a country that I've visited more than once, and one whose culture seems more in tune with my value system. I like the fact that the arts are highly prioritised in the Netherlands, and that the Dutch are (generally speaking, of course) open-minded and well-educated folk. That's me in a nutshell, I suppose!
