For professional reasons I was appointed to Madrid. I don't speak Spanish, I'm discovering the language and it's very complicated for me. I really want to learn but it's not that easy unfortunately!!!

The beginnings were quite easy even if the search for accommodation was not easy. Then once settled, life in Benin was very pleasant.

the Abidjan-Cotonou maquis,
the craft village,
the people of the country.
mosquitoes,
power outages,
the high cost of water and electricity,
the absence of cinemas,

the z茅midjans, also called zem, very unruly and dangerous motorcycle taxis.

Very very difficult at first! Then after a few months I learned to love the country and its people. The Burkinab茅 are an endearing and kind people.

Very very difficult at first! Then discovery of the Island and its charm.

The beaches - the mountains, the music: soca and calypso, the Steel pans: the drums of Trinidad and the carnival.
Mixed local gastronomy, spices and condiments (pepper, chilli, coriander, coconut).
Fish, including shark with bake and shark, and seafood (especially crab). fruit, calaloo and crab dumplings, rotis (very thin wheat pancake filled with curry preparations, pea puree and potatoes) served in the street - outings accompanied by Rum and Carib and Stag, local blond beers.

AND the birth of my daughter in December 2001!
insecurity - high rents - difficulty finding certain products - broken wooden bridges which gave us fright every time.

Quite a difficult start - then saw my aunt and a former Senegalese friend from university in Tours (37) who helped me integrate - met some great people - passed my driving test - purchased my first car - great times on the Island of N'Gor - in Gor茅e - St Louis - Almadies - M'Bour - Rufisque etc.... Good adaptation of my son - acquisition of my first dog Olaf - discovery of African art that I didn't know about until then.
