I've lived near Dumfries since 2005 with my husband who was born in the UK. We moved back to the UK after he was in the states for 15 years, for him to find a teaching job, which ended up being in Carlisle but close enough for him to commute and for us to live in Scotland. We moved from West Linn, Oregon (just outside of Portland). I have found living in the UK very easy, not really any trouble at all adjusting (but I do miss Mexican food!) Haven't really had any contact with the expat community save for one professional colleague.
