I have been in Yaound茅 since the end of August 2011. The first months were very difficult for me. Here the sky is more gray and cloudy than blue and sunny until in the dry season I appreciate the temperate side (it is pleasant for me not to have to endure scorching temperatures). People are nice while not opening their doors easily; you just have to be patient. They observe you and if you respect them then bonds are created. Administratively I had some setbacks, but with patience everything returned to normal. The only word I know in Camfranglais is ASSIA which means patience. It takes some to settle down when you don't have much money, but when we observe those around us then we can only put our troubles into perspective. And then it's a country where you can eat abundantly and not very expensively local produce of fruits and vegetables which are succulent. We must love simplicity so as not to arouse the lust of the unscrupulous because there are such things everywhere. At the recent craft exhibition I was able to admire the talents in large numbers and the ingenuity of many... This country deserves to emerge from its doldrums and if I could contribute at least as much as a thimble in the sea, I would do it with joy!
