About

For us, life in Mexico started in 2002 with mission work at an orphange in the mountains of Chihuahua. I managed construction teams from the U.S. and spent all my other time with the kids - basically being a Dad. I loved it! While at the home we met a cute little girl and begain an adoption process. This also was the start of an emersion into Mexico's fine legal system and the integrity of its attornies. After four years in Chihuahua we unfortunately had to leave. Out next stop was the island of Cozumel where we continued our work in campus development, the construction of homes, and with the children at the orphange, Ciudad de Angeles. We were in Cozumel when the Chihuahuan courts gave us custody of our soon to be daughter. Now, you would think that the finalized adoption would be just around the corner but not so in Mexico. We did, finally, finalize the adoption but not before she turned 16, which is required by U.S. immigration for them to recognize her as our legal daughter. So, in Mexico she's our legal daughter. U.S. immigration couldn't give a rat's derri猫re so we're happily stuck in Mexico. I suppose we could live Nob illegally for a few years and then the U.S. would grant her amnesty and citizenship but we can't do it legally. Go figure. Anyway, after my work ended in Cozumel we moved to San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas for economic reasons (we're living on savings). It's not a bad place - it's pretty, nice weather, in the mountains, low cost of living, very little crime. My only complaints are (1) that it's a long and expensive trip for us to visit family in the U.S. and (2) the city is filled with Mayan indigenous who are very unusual as Mexicans go and extremely superstitious. I haven't yet had the opportunity to stand on holy ground and listen to the burning bush so who knows where we'll be next year? Life is truly an adventure and we're just trying to enjoy it and be useful wherever we are.

Construction and work project supervisory for a children's home.
Beautiful beaches, unmatched snorkeling and diving, great food.
It's Hot, Hot in the summer and very expensive to live there. Oh, and don't forget the hurricanes.

Super friendly people, inexpensive economy, it had its own beauty but you had to look for it.
Lot's of wind and dirt, winters were a little too cold for me, and I don't like Ranchero music.
