About

I’m 58 years old, divorced (about 13 years now) with two very grown up children, both in the UK, and I became a Grandfather for the first time in November 2012. In the mid to the end of the ‘70s I worked in the Middle East, with a year in Paris in ’89, then Bangladesh in ’95 and C&EE (Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and Serbia) from ’96 until now. I first came to Praha in ‘96 after spending a year in Bangladesh. You couldn’t get much more East to West culture shocked coming to the Czech Republic, except of course when I first went expat and went to work in Iran in ‘78 from the UK! I work in construction, currently I am the Executive Project Manager on the Cerny Most OC project in Praha. And I have to admit it is one of the most difficult (challenging ... to be politically correct) projects (the client is French) that I have ever worked on. I have had my own car for four years, but driving on the right side of the road in a left hand drive car is still tough! I drive a Jeep Cherokee Sport and given the Czech roads, it is probably one of the best types of car to have in the Czech Republic! I listen to most types of music anything from Bryan Adams to Verdi and have quite an extensive CD collection including classical. I love Italian food and wine, though the French don’t have bad wines either! My food taste is quite simple (some would say plain) to most people that I know, hence the Italian I guess ... easy for the single man. I do occasionally cook, but cooking for one is not much fun. My reading material is mainly non-fiction. Don’t get me wrong, I like the “classic” fiction and I did go through a science fiction phase for a while and I do have Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot on my table, but there’s something about reading a book that you know, for the most part anyway, is fact.

Double taxation for American expatriates by timoday1

Hello, I am an American expatriate. Please sign my petition to change the current tax system from a citizenship based taxation to a resident based taxation so that the 8.7 million expatriates can afford to live and raise a family outside the USA. ...
