I am in the British Army serving in Gutersloh Germany, I got married to a German woman in a German church or registrar. I have been told that if my marriage was not blessed by an English church then I am not legally married to the German woman. The second reason I ask this question is - I want to move to the UK when I complete my Service next year but my wife doesn't so I think we will end up getting divorced and I know that will be costly we have been married 3 years now. What really beats me is that I found that she has a lot of debt before we got married but I didn't find out till we got married.
