About

Hello, I am a French mother and I have two children aged 10 and 8. I have lived in the United States for years. I'm planning to move to Washington DC with my children soon but I don't know the city at all. Why Washington DC? I found it very dynamic and rich in culture so I think it is perfect for my children who are Franco-American by birth. I am looking for a PUBLIC bilingual (French-English) school (if it exists) in DC or in the surrounding area for them. The remaining private one is unfortunately reserved for expats. or privileged families. Obtaining a scholarship remains difficult in these schools. I found two public schools in Silver Spring (Sligo Creek Elementary and Silver Spring International) with French immersion but I don't really know if this results in a good level in French at the end of the year. Are there 50/50 French speakers and other nationalities in these classes? No place for this year unfortunately, I have already inquired. So what to do?? For anyone who can help me suggest an alternative for this year (see an excellent public American school that offers French language learning once or twice a week in LV1 would be better than nothing. Aside from the Alliance francaise in DC which offers after-school classes to French-speaking children once a week, do you know of another French-speaking organization that offers a course 3 or 4 times a week to follow the curriculum with a real qualified French teacher? Thank you all for your support. Ghislaine
