I am currently living in Calgary with my husband and 3 year old daughter. My husband lost his oil and gas job in the recession and has been offered a position in his family business in Sonora, Mexico. We are planning to move in Spring 2011.

I lived with my then fiance (now husband) and worked at a private bilingual elementary school

I liked the people, the food, the language.
Monterrey was a big city, bad traffic pollution etc. It was also expensive by Mexican standards.

I would stick to the state highways. I would NOT drive at night and I would not stop. I think most of the violence is drug related and targeted so if you are not involved in the drug trade and exercise common sense I think you will be fine! Read More
