Great weather, relatively safe for Brazil, easy city to get around, not expensive. Good beaches 3-4 hours away. Clean mountain air. The city runs more efficiently than other big cities in Brazil.
You have to fly to Sao Paulo to catch long-haul flights to Europe or Asia. Not many great restaurants, especially if you like Asian cuisines. Brazilian bureaucracy.
