There are several pre-school groups who cater for 1+ children. Trouble is, they are all over-subscribed and the group we have our 18 month old daughter down for won't have any vacancies until September, when the school age International schools open for the new term.

The pre-school groups are all informal and rely on the ladies to function.

Your best bet is to hang on until you arrive here then look around to see what's available, as there doesn't seem to be a waiting list system.

I will just wait and see i guess. It certainly doesn't sound like they are organised at all. It makes me worry about the hygiene; is that an issue?

They're as organized as they can be in a country which has only two speeds - slow and stop!

The full time schools (from 4 years) have a very good reputation, there are several British curriculum schools to choose from.

Pre-school it's more difficult, hence the ladies organising things themselves. Don't worry about poor hygiene, they do a very good job. The various pre-school groups can get a bit cliquey ("how important is your husband" and all that BS) so get in with a group with other mums you get on with.

I will be moving from Dubai so it sounds quite different (except for the cliques - i think that comes as a package with expat life.. haha)

I will be in full time work and my husband back in dubai so the lack of nursery spaces will be a problem.

You should consider contacting Little Nomads who have a group for 12 month olds.聽 Waiting lists are long so get in touch now.

Most of the pre-school / nursery groups have closed for the summer now and won't start again until the new school term in September.

Gib: you won't find a website for Little Nomads cuz they don't have one. I'll see if I can find a number for you but last time Mrs S checked they were booked full.

here it is for those interested:

With regards to enquiry about The Little Angels Playgroup, we are located in Hay Al Andalus, Tripoli. The age range is from 2 - 5 years old ( we have a nursery from 2-3 years KG 1 3-4 years聽 KG 2 4-5 years.聽
The activities are story time, art , music, educational activities and building reading and writing skills (for the older kids ). We have also a Pediatrician which will give the children a check up once a month.
The facilities include play area, classrooms, garden.

The fees are 3,500 lyd per year. There is no registration fee.

The Little Angels is the one your looking for. Great premises and wonderful staff. Check out there web site littleangels.com.ly . They are very reasonable and have a excellent curriculum.

I have researched this in detail!聽 As someone said from age 4 onwards is fine but pre-school is more difficult.聽 Little Nomads seems to have a very good reputation however there is a constant waiting list and they don't accept children age 3 and up. Little Angels seems to be ok,although havent seen their new premises.聽 Staff have good English although all mainly Libyan staff(as opposed to expat).聽 They seem ok resourced and do planned activities. Another is planet kids which is supposed to be mainly local kids.聽 Heard the staff don't have great english but the place is very hygenic,they don't have loads of resources.聽 International school is very good although a bit pricey(from age 2).聽 Hope this is of some help.

I`ve looked all around Tripoli for a good nursery for my kids and the best one is The Little Angels in Hay Al Andalus, Gargarish. Wonderful staff, good location,excellent premises and an excellent programme. They even have a web site littleangels.com.ly.
They`re probably the closest you`ll get to the British school and Gems International, but at a reasonable price.

I have a friend which child was in Little Angels KG. The kid was there one semester and the parents weren't satisfied with it. They told me that premises are very nice with a beautiful garden and the people are good.
Problem was that teachers are Libyans and they don't work too much with kids and speak English with them, so kid didn't improve at all. Also, besides nice garden with grass and plastic toys, the kid was only ONCE out to play and spend time in 4 months. I couldn't believe it really, especially because the weather was perfect most of the time (not too warm).

Actually, the teachers are English and Libyan (Libyans which were brought up in the UK), and have excellent English skills. I`m surprised !! as I have many friends who have their kids there and they are all satisfied.The kids are reading and writing at 5 and have very good conversation skills in English.
The kids also now go out nearly every morning into the garden after breakfast. Very strange ? Maybe they had a reason when your friends kid was there not to be using the garden as much....
They have a new location now which is even better than the previous..

My nephew goes to ladybird kidz club聽 and he loves it.. he asks to go there even on weekends !聽 They have a huge amount of toys/games for kids and everything/ supplies they have are shipped from the US.聽 The curriculum is American and the atmosphere and care is wonderful..

Re, the lady birdz club it was very nice, the best I've seen yet much better than Little Angels and little feet, it actually felt like i was in a proper school when i went to visit, however they had the front gate held open with a large plastic toy, with the front door open aswell! We stood outside for 5 minutes before someone came although we could have just walked over the toy and inside. I then asked the head teacher if the door was always open, to which she replied theres a watchman (who was no were in sight when she said this!) My 2 year old is a mini houdini and would be gone in no time and with no fear at all so I have a big saftey issue with it.
