Hi Adam,

I came to Mauritius 2 weeks ago, I am French and working here for 3 months. I would like to explore Mauritius too, unfortunately it's a bit boring to to do it by myself..so as you said it could be a good idea to arrange some outings!

There are many places to visit such as Chamarel Falls and the Colored Earths, Vallee des couleurs nature park : La Terre de 22 couleurs, Black river gorges, Alexander falls, 7 Cascades, Trou aux cerfs (dormant volcano), Grand bassin (sacred lake).
If you are interested please let me know. I am free during the weekends. I am here for 3 months and I don't want to waste time it's going so fast!

I've also recently arrived in Mauritius, and am just getting my life set up.聽 I'm definitely up for some hiking, and am fairly mobile (motorbike).

Do you have any particular hikes you're keen on, or just want to climb the nearest pointy thing?

I know what you mean about it being boring doing it alone, although it has its advantages but sometimes it kinda puts you off going out altogether. Luckily, I have family that take or accompany me to some places but I have a feeling they're not interested in the more active stuff! I've been to 7 cascade, il aux cerfs , 7 coloured earths (chamarel) but of course, I don't mind going again! Nice list though, the rest I have not visited and are also on my to-do list. The main hurdle is getting there...Can you drive?

Pieter both and Piton de la Petite Rivi猫re Noire look the most appealing, but I'm easy, I'd really like to go visit Black river gorges and walk around there for a day. Motorbike is fine, do you have a driving license? If we manage to find enough people interested, none of which who drive, we could all chip in for a cheap rental car + petrol.

It looks like we're getting a group together...

I do have a driving licence, and am happy to hire and/or drive a car. I'm not sure if hiring a car for one day is easy, but we can find out.

I had a read of a blog post of somebody climbing Pieter Both It looks amazing and is the mountain I'd most like to climb, but we might need some climbing equipment and limit the group to people who are comfortable with a bit of bush bashing. Doors anybody know if we can get to the top without ropes?

Piton de la Petite Rivi猫re Noire on the other hand looks like an easy pleasant hike which isn't much of a challenge but maybe it's a good way to get to know each other.

I'm up for either or both :-)

@seapirate - Of course, the more the merrier/cheaper. Good to be with someone who knows the areas a bit better too. Can you drive?

@thedandan - I have some contacts for cheap car rentals but of course, if we find someone with a car already it would work out a lot cheaper. The blog looks good, his username looks familiar...I think Instagram. I heard that the mountain is a bit of a struggle but do-able without ropes and climbing equipment, apart from the last stretch which is a bit of a scramble. Piton de la Petite Rivi猫re Noire sounds like a good starting point, for sure...It's the tallest yet one of the easiest mountains here. I'm no way a professional hiker/mountain climber, I just did it for fun with friends in the UK, so my access to equipment is minimal. If anything, I'm probably worse now than I was then (I've been eating too much gateaux piment and briani )

It seems you did good research and found best mountain to climb! well I agree with you Piton de la Petite Rivi猫re Noire looks like to be a good start.

I don't have climbing equipment (except my shoes..) but I have a car!! so no need to rent a car, sharing petrol fees will be enough.. and obviously it will be easier to get there. Then depending where you are living we could meet at some point to pick up you.

Have you anything already planned this Saturday/Sunday?

The idea of climbing Piton de la Petite Rivi猫re Noire looks very interesting, unfortunately I will have to pass on this one as one of my knee is not too good for such climbing, however am good in going down the Black River Gorge National Park.

Others activities we can organize if you are up to in is Quad Biking or a day out on catamaran on one of the small island around Mauritius.

hi friend i ask some advice from friends who had ever climbed mountain petit rivire. Well they say it difficult one as really had to walk for hours. Well wat u think we try a more easy free safe climbing another mountain.

@seapirate - It's always good to hear feedback from someone who already has done Piton de la Petite Rivi猫re Noire.  There may be a bit of a scramble here and there but it wouldn't be a mountain without it, right? .

Hi all, I'm also sort of new to Mauritius (been here for two months but have mostly been busy trying to get on top of my new job) and would be very keen to join in hiking and outdoors activities. Unfortunately I don't have a car yet but will soon. I'm about to head off abroad for two weeks for work, but if you start a regular group for outdoor stuff, I'd be very happy to join you after I return in November. I'm living in the north and also quite keen to get into some diving (I have my advanced open water but am still quite a beginner). Cheers.

i'm mauritian and i live in the south part of the island, a place called "l'escalier".

i know a good spot for hiking. There's place called "le souffleur" and "pont naturel" near where i live. i usually go there by bicycle just to admire the sea from the cliff.

I think best idea is we meet some day in the afternoon where everyone will be free then will be more easy to make the groups.
