Retiring to South Africa

My Husband and I plan to retire to Cape Town in a couple of years time. We have a Son who lives there. i lived in Cape Town for almost 30 years but have been living in the USA for the past 29 years. What is the best way to go about starting the process? Visas, Health Insurance, etc. I would appreciate any advice from other ex pats who have immigrated from the USA.

Many thanks,

Jen

To start your retirement move to Cape Town, focus first on securing a Retired Person鈥檚 Visa (requiring proof of a minimum monthly income stream, typically around ZAR 37,000 per person/couple depending on current regulations), obtaining private medical insurance, and gathering extensive paperwork like police clearances.

Because immigration processing through VFS Global and the Department of Home Affairs takes considerable time, you should begin laying the groundwork 12 to 18 months before your target move date.
