I don鈥榯 know PPC, but I had the same problem. Brought most of my money to Canadia Bank. They still pay 5% for a two year fix deposit. Canadia bank belongs 70% to the National Bank of Cambodia. Seems pretty save to me.

PPC is a good bank, a commercial bank, that gives a bit higher interest on fixed deposit than Canadia bank (5.25% on monthly interest payments or 5.5% when payment on maturity date).

They don't have a lot of atm's (same as Canadia) but enough if you live in PP.

I got a Canadia bank account 5 years ago and I haven't regret it.

Like many banks in Cambodia, PPC requires a proof of employment. This makes it difficult to open an account if you don鈥榯 work.

What happens to people on retirent visa there might be many of those

They have less choice. I was rejected at some banks, but at ABA Bank and Canadia Bank they only ask for passport and visa.

Get an account at Canadia bank, they don't ask for employment proof.

I recently tried both ABA and Acleda at Aeon Mall 2 to open an account with retirement visa and rental contract. They聽 both asked for a Proof of Residence from the village chief (will cost me $50). What branch did you use? Maybe I can avoid this ludicrous fee by trying the branch you opened the account.

This seems strange to me. ABA never asked for such certificates. Try an other branch. Canadia Bank is also recommendable. They pay far better interest rates. At Canadia it is also hasslefree to open an account.

Actually my apartment manager told me that another European customer was able to open an Acleda account with just a rental contract.聽 聽Just FYI, I opened a PPC bank about 6 months ago without hassle, the funny thing is that they told me that if I received Euro wire, the counter clerks told me that it would be exchanged and deposited into my USD account. When I received the Euro wire, they returned it immediately to my client and they didn't even notify me of the receipt.聽 It ends up being that PPC cannot handle Euros (probably don't have the license to deal in Euros).聽 That is why I was seeking a second bank.聽 The town chief charges $50, which is ridiculous when you consider one year visa is under $300.聽 So beware of the PPC limitation.
