How to calculate 14 days out of malaysia ?

Dear All,

I聽 started working in Malaysia Penang from April 2018.

I planned to go to india for personal trip on coming September month. I have confusion on calculating the 14 days out of malaysia for resident tax calculation

I will depart date on聽 5th September 9PM from KL
Return on 19th September 8AM聽 to KL

1.Should I include 5th & 19th on 14 days calculation ?聽 OR
2.Should I consider only depart date & not return date

please correct me if am wrong.

Here is my calculation
5th Sep - 1 Day (start from KL - 8PM )
6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 ,18 - 13 Days
19th Sep - 1 Day (reach KL聽 8AM).

if I return on 19th Sep 8AM will be consider as total 15 days聽 or 14 days ?
Or Should I reach 13th sep itself ?

I already booked the tickets for 18 days But going to change the dates.

You will be in Malaysia for 182 days out of 365 anyway so the 14 day rule is not relevant. That rule is about linking tax year 2017 to 2018.

The only effect of your absence is it will delay the date when you become tax resident.

How days are counted is that if you are in Malaysia at any point in the 24 hrs then it is counted as being present.
