I did the opt out a couple years ago.聽 The form came in the mail,聽 I checked the opt out box on the back of the form.聽 Sent it via LBC to my daughter, in聽 the states,聽 she then put it in the US mail system. No problem. Cost me 1750 pesos to send via LBC,聽 took about five working days to reach her.聽 I do this same procedure with my annual SS report, as well.

You do need to opt out, or they will automatically enroll you in part B,聽 which is useless outside the states.聽 聽I don鈥檛 know if you can do it by phone.

Excellent, thanks. I'm in my first year of SS. There's a report? I assume sent to physical US address?

I've been collecting SS for 19 years and never ask to report.

(1) I understand if you're 90 years or older you will receive a questionnaire.

(2) I understand if your ss is direct deposited overseas you may receive a questionnaire.

(3) I understand if you do not maintain a US address you may receive a questionnaire.

Ahh, thanks for mentioning that. So, will I be able to opt out of Medicare with my US address while I'm permanently here but聽 using my Nv address (sis in-law) for tax purposes? Kinda sounds like I'd need to post up my Philippines address to opt out. Which then brings up the cycle of annual reports. hmmmm.

Not necessarily,聽 Lar.聽 I had to use the Manila branch of the SS in the embassay during the pandemic,聽 which is why I had to give them my Philippine address.

All retired americans can opt out of part b,聽 so you could do it with your Nv address.聽 However,聽 they might want to interview you about the decision.聽 I didn鈥檛 have to,聽 but I have seen it mentioned on a few websites.聽 Supposedly, they just want to be sure you understand that if you later want to enroll in part b,聽 you have to pay a substantial penalty.聽 I don鈥檛 know if that interview would be conducted by phone

Ok, sounds good. I still have my USA phone service, at least until this phone is paid for, but also because of the service. I do have a Skype number as well, so I can do a phone interview if needed.

To re-enroll聽 at some future time you have to a fee which goes up for each year you're out or maybe the fee is tracked on to your new part B deductions, one or the other, I don't remember which.
