I should also mention that I鈥檒l be on a dependents visa through my husband who is a teacher. His school has arranged the whole visa process for us. And I will be a 鈥渞esident鈥� in Vietnam (in the country for 183+ days) so I imagine I will have to pay tax there.

You do not say how you gained residency status here in VN. You mention 183 days, this happens to be the exact cutoff under international tax treaties/law. Your mother country is not happy to give up your tax status there, 184 days and they do and you will indeed become liable for taxes here. As someone said your best thing to do is consult an international tax lawyer. It was not ling ago we did not have to worry about it here in VN. Then VN agreed to cooperate with the countries of the world. As I recall that started in 15 or 16. Residency is very difficult to obtain here.
