ADVICE needed please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI all

Im really hoping there are a few people from UK who now live in BGI and can help!

My husband and I (and our girl of 6) have been trying to move to BGI since 2008.

My husband got a job with JADA and they put through our immigration forms but have never heard anything back. We have tried chasing them up but they seem a bit impossible to get hold of!! We are now going to try another route. My husband will be coming out without us for approx. a month (hopefully no longer), he will sit in at immigration every day to see someone there to get a work permit. Then once he has that he will go find a job. Finding a job is not a problem for us. Not worried about that or finding somewhere to live is also not a problem.

The things that concern me are the work permit - getting it, how long it will be for and how much it costs and any paperwork he needs to take with him when he comes out there to get it.
Also getting out daughter into school - any special requirments needed, or does it depend on husbands work visa etc etc.
Also mine and my daughters visa - do we have to go and apply for a permit to stay there even though my husband will be working?
And lastly i know you have to pay for health care unless it comes with the job but have no idea on how much things (health care wise) cost, just would like a rough idea, how much for having a baby etc check ups, scans, labour etc etc

Any help or advice would be very very welcome even if its one tiny piece of advice it all helps

Hi,
Go into town and visit the immigration building.聽 Go up to the second floor and make the line.聽 Warning, before going, make sure you are properly dressed, because they do make a big deal about it.聽 Business attire is best, no shorts, short skirts or revealing tops.聽 They are extremely picky about that and will not let you in if you do not follow the dress code.聽 Jean pants are acceptable.聽 Also, be sure to turn your phone off before walking in and keep it off until you leave.聽 If you need to make a call, step outside and make a call.聽 I have seen too many people get yelled at for not following this rule.聽

There you can find information on getting a work permit.聽 I've never applied so I do not know specifics in what one would need.聽 If you make the line and ask, they will give you all the information required to apply as well as the period of time it would take to obtain one.聽 You could try calling them, (246) 418-4180, but your best bet is to go in person.聽

As for acquiring a visa for you and your daughter, yes, you are both required to have one.聽 Upon entering Barbados, you have 30 days in which you are allowed to stay in the country.聽 After that you must obtain an extension.聽 They grant a visa extension that is valid for 6 months.聽 That cost is $100 BBDS ($50 US) and I believe that is per person/application.聽 For this you will need your passport, airplane ticket to show proof of when you are leaving, passport pictures (you can get these done in town, there are a few shops close by the immigration building) and the form they give you at the immigration building. This can be done in a day (really a few hours depending on the line), but I suggest arriving early, the line can be long.聽 I'm not sure about extending it over 6 months, you may need to speak to them about that and see what they say.

After granting you the extension, you leave your passports with them for 2 weeks so that they could stamp them with the visa extension.聽 After 2 weeks, go in and make the line and ask for your passports.聽 This is usually quick, again depending on the line.
