Hello,

I am hoping to move to Guadeloupe soon with my husband and daughter. I am British and have Grenadian citizenship also. My husband is Grenadian while my daughter is British. We currently live in Grenada. I鈥檓 finding it quite difficult to find information on work permits. I have asked the embassy but they were not particularly helpful. We want to work in Guadeloupe so need permits. Do we need job offers to apply? Or does the company have to apply for us? My french is limited and my husband speaks almost no French but we are learning (as quickly as we can). I have a business in the U.K. so I have money coming in each month, enough to sustain us for a while anyway.

Would a better option be to establish our own business? Just for reference, my husband has 25 years experience in the building trade (although no formal qualifications) while I have management experience in housekeeping, bar work, retail etc. I also have experience working with animals.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Guadeloupe !Yes, as Bhavna said, you need a work permit and to do so, you need a sponsor (company).I would advice you to create your company or association (better for taxes). Then you can sponsor yourself.You can find a job in hotels and restaurants. I know can sponsor you, no need French.Your husband can "job" easily. Your family can all be linked to your visa.

Hello Samantha971 and thank you for your reply. I am looking at setting up a business in guadeloupe.聽 Do you know anything about that process? Do we need to input a minimum amount of cash? How do I do the work permit? I was thinking of applying for the long stay visa (the one with no requirement for a residence permit for 12 months) then I could come and set the business up. Could I put my daughter in the local school? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Im looking now at setting up a business there with my husband so trying to figure out that process. It鈥檚 rather a minefield of information. I need a long stay visa so I can get there and set it up. If you can offer any insights into this i would be grateful.

Hi Astra,

The initiative of settling to Guadeloupe is quiet challenging !

I am bilingual French-Englsih, went to university in London Guildhold University in Moorgate, just to give you an idea of my background !

French citizenship and work and residency permit are the worse nightmare for an expat, when I came to Guadeloupe as visitor, I face the challenge in the middle of Covid19, so could not return to my country of work in UK, and was forced to stay in Guadeloupe, even as part French I felt it !
