Temperatures for Golfers

Summers: High temperatures in July and August average around 19掳C to 21掳C (66掳F to 70掳F), providing comfortable, sweat-free rounds with long daylight hours.

Winters: Winters stay quite mild by European standards, with daytime highs hovering around 8掳C to 10掳C (46掳F to 50掳F) and freezing frost or snow being relatively rare. Courses like Waterford Castle Golf Club or Tramore remain playable through much of the winter, barring heavy downpours.

You should be aware that this is a public issue with many Irish people not being in favour of non-residents buying property in Ireland.聽 It started when a developer sold an estate of 100 houses to a Chinese investor.聽 Anyway, there is currently nothing stopping you (or anybody else) buying property anywhere in Ireland and there are plenty of golf courses and the country isn't that big; my advice would be to find the golf course of your dream, then look around for a house - ask in the Clubhouse.

Yes, I did visit the Waterford Castle Golf Club website and it looks like a gem of a course with reasonable membership fees.

I am also tracking the weather in Waterford on the Intellicast website and it looks great - cooler temperatures with reasonable humidity this time of year. Winter temps don't look severe allowing for year-round golf play. I don't mind cloudy weather either.

Yes, I am aware of the issue regarding the sensitivity of outsiders buying 2nd homes in Ireland at this time due to the housing shortage in some areas. I had planned to bring up this issue with real estate agents when meeting with them.

I plan to spend considerable time in Waterford if I do purchase there and plan to get involved in community affairs, maybe on a volunteer basis since I am retired. And if the situation there suits me, I would also consider becoming a permanent resident.
