Travelling with ricevuta

Hello,

Has anyone actually travelled with the first Italian residence permit application based on convivenza di fatto (family reasons), after fingerprints, using only the ricevuta and expired tourist visa?

I am flying Rome – Istanbul – Almaty – Istanbul – Rome.

Would greatly appreciate the help

Thanks,

Traveling with a first-time permesso di soggiorno receipt and an expired entry visa/tourist status outside Italy carries a very high risk of being denied boarding by airlines or refused entry at re-entry, as Italian rules allowing travel on receipts strictly apply to renewals, not first-time issuances. While your itinerary avoids Schengen transit layovers (flying via Istanbul to Almaty), Turkish Airlines or ground handlers at Rome Fiumicino frequently do not understand first-time postal receipts and treat the expired visa as an overstay.

If You Must Go

  1. Check the IATA/Timatic rules or call Turkish Airlines ahead to see how they handle Italian first-time postal receipts.

  1. Carry extensive proof: Bring your fingerprint appointment notice (foglio appuntamento), the original postal receipt packet, your marca da bollo, proof of the registered convivenza di fatto, and your partner’s ID/tax documents.
