To import African grey parrots into Portugal, you must obtain a CITES import permit from Portugal's National Institute for Nature Conservation and Forest (ICNF) well in advance, followed by an EU Health Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian in the country of origin within 48 hours of travel, and ensure the birds meet EU pet bird regulations, including microchipping, vaccinations, and possibly a pre-export isolation period.

Thank-you for your help i will try the phone number and send emails. and hopefully someone in the department may get back to me. its looking like if the birds dont go i wont. i cant leave them behind.

Sorry to hear about your greys plucking. it could be a number of reasons no one seems to know why they start. some say lack of calcium in the diet. feeding pellets is one way. or a liquid calcium in the water.

it could even be something simple like a new toy in the cage . or the cage being moved to a new area.

the bird being to dry. the bird being to hot.

something new in the area its kept in.

Many reasons being given . but its impossible to say why they start,

I know why it started. But I don't know how to prevent it.

It was one of two reasons:

- the death of people very close to him

- on a trip to the vet, he saw a parrot just like him all plucked up. I think that's the reason...

It's not a lack of calcium, because I give it to him every day.

Yes once they start its difficult to stop them sorry to hear about the possible reasons.

you can get a collar that goes around the neck. but very difficult to keep on them .

they are sprays that have a sour taste.

i was told not to give calcium daily by a avian vet maybe 3 to 4 days only ,
