How to become an Expat in Spain

Good day to you all

I live in England and work as a full time Forensic Project worker.

I will be moving to Spain, hopefully within the next 2 years and I would love to find out the best way to move forward. I will be opening an English speaking care-home for elderly women in Alicante.

I have practical questions like should I rent or should I buy? As well as information on the best area to develop my business in considering demand.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who has the experience and knowledge to advise me on this matte and who is willing to share their experiences.

Hope to hear from you soon.

kindest regards

Hello,

First of all, congratulations on your exciting plans. Opening an English-speaking care home for elderly women in Alicante sounds like a wonderful project, especially considering the large British expatriate community living along the Costa Blanca.

I believe renting may be a good option initially, as it allows you to better understand the local market, regulations, and demand before making a significant property investment. Once your business is established, purchasing a property might become a more attractive long-term option.

You may also want to research areas with a high concentration of British and Northern European retirees, as this could help ensure a steady demand for your services.

I don't have direct experience in the care-home sector, but I find your project very interesting and wish you every success. Hopefully, members with local knowledge of Alicante and the care industry in Spain will be able to provide more detailed advice.

Best of luck with your plans, and please keep us updated on your progress.

Kind regards

The best way to enjoy life and work in Spain is not to consider yourself an "expat". We are guests in this country and local acceptance must be earned by respect, a willingness to integrate, an active interest in the language and culture and a lot of understanding and patience.

Hi,

your plan sounds very interesting and Spain could be a good choice, especially areas like Alicante with a strong international community.

In general, I would recommend starting with renting first. It gives you time to understand the local market, regulations, and demand before committing to buying property.

For your type of business, location and licensing are very important. Alicante has good potential due to its expat population, but it鈥檚 worth checking local rules for elderly care early on.

Networking locally will also be a key factor for success in Spain.

Good luck with your plans.

Hi! Although I don鈥檛 have direct experience in this, I am also based in England and interested in moving to Spain and I鈥檓 working on the homologation for my nursing license there. I am an elderly nurse by background and have worked in hospital and nursing home environments. I have a similar dream of owning a care home or creating a palliative care telecare/community service and can offer in both Spanish and English!

I鈥檓 very interested in your idea- feel free to get in touch!
